This table was inspired by a backpacking trip I took up in the Mt. Evans wilderness. I came across countless mushrooms and was taken with their beauty. This table was a result of that inspiration.
Details:
The base is comprised of layered Baltic Birch plywood, connected with Sapele and brass "floating" disks. The top is made of sapele (one of my favorite woods), joined with traditional joinery to create the illusion of the top floating on the base.
While creating the joinery for the legs to the top, I accidentally punched through the top with my drill (oops!), so I needed to repair the hole with something. So I experimented with a bowtie, which added a delicate touch of asymmetry to the piece.
